THE INTRODUCTION OF 3-Morpholinopropanesulfonic Acid
As a buffer, MOPS has good pH stability and is inert to a variety of chemical reagents and enzymes. It is white powder at room temperature, has high hydrophilicity and good water solubility. When MOPS is dissolved in water, the aqueous solution appears colorless.
Main applications of MOPS:
1. MOPS is often used in molecular biology and biochemical research.
2. MOPS is used as a pH buffer for protein purification and extraction.
3. It is a component of buffer media for bacteria, yeast and mammalian cells.
4. Running buffer for separation of RNA by agarose gel electrophoresis
5. Can be used as a lysis buffer for E. coli cells;
6. As an eluent in gel filtration chromatography;
7. Used in Northern hybridization as a buffer for RNA isolation and membrane transfer;
8. Suitable for determination of bicinchoninic acid (BCA);
9. Used for electron transfer and phosphorylation research on chloroplast thin layer preparation.

Features of MOPS:
1. pKa value is between 6-8;
2. High solubility in water;
3. Difficult to penetrate biofilm;
4. The salt effect is small;
5. Ion concentration, solution composition and temperature have little effect on dissociation;
6. Does not form complexes or precipitates with metal ions;
7. The buffer is chemically stable;
8. Regarding the absorption in the ultraviolet region of a 0.1 mol·L aqueous solution, the smaller the absorbance at 260 and 280 nm wavelengths, the better;
9. It is easy to produce high-purity salt.
